# Getting Your $KIX

Before you can buy footballer cards or enter games, you need **$KIX** — the platform's utility token. This section explains what $KIX is, why it exists, and how to get some.

## What is $KIX?

$KIX is the utility token — the currency — of the KiX platform. You use it to:

* Buy footballer cards (DATs)
* Enter game competitions
* Participate in platform governance (once you lock it as vlKIX — more on this in the [$KIX Token](/kix/usdkix-the-platform-token/kix-token.md) section)

The best way to think about $KIX is like arcade tokens or chips at a gaming venue. You exchange money for them, use them to play, and then if you earn rewards, you can exchange them back.

> **$KIX is NOT an investment.** $KIX is a utility token — a platform currency. It is not an investment product. KiX does not offer financial advice, and nothing on this platform should be read as a promise of financial returns. The value of $KIX can go up or down. Only spend what you can afford to lose, and never take out credit to play.

## No In-Platform Purchase at Launch

At launch, **$KIX is not available for direct purchase on the KiX platform.** The **Buy $KIX** button you see on the platform deep-links you out to the DEX listing, where you can acquire $KIX externally.

This will not always be the case — but for now, getting $KIX means using one of the two paths below.

## How to Get $KIX

There are two ways to acquire $KIX: through a decentralised exchange (DEX), or through a centralised exchange (CEX).

### DEX Route — CoinTR + Kayen Finance

1. **Buy CHZ on** [**CoinTR**](https://www.cointr.com). CHZ is the native token of Chiliz Chain — the network KiX runs on. You can buy CHZ with your local currency on CoinTR.
2. **Swap CHZ for $KIX on** [**Kayen Finance**](https://app.kayen.finance) — the primary decentralised exchange on Chiliz Chain. Connect your KiX smart account (or wallet), swap your CHZ for $KIX, and it's ready to use.

At launch, $KIX is priced at **$0.10 USD** — approximately **5.24 CHZ per $KIX** (this ratio moves with the CHZ/USD rate).

### CEX Route — CoinTR (and MEXC in the future)

You can also buy $KIX **directly** on [**CoinTR**](https://www.cointr.com) — no swap required. This is the simplest route if you would rather not touch CHZ at all.

In the future, $KIX is also expected to list on additional exchanges such as **MEXC**.

Once you've bought $KIX on an exchange, send it to your KiX smart account address (found in your profile) to start using it on the platform.

## Why Two Routes?

* **DEX (CoinTR → Kayen Finance):** best if you want to be fully on-chain and keep control of your own wallet at every step.
* **CEX (CoinTR direct):** best if you want the simplest possible experience and are comfortable buying directly through an exchange account.

Either way, once your $KIX lands in your KiX smart account, it works exactly the same on the platform.

## A Note on USD Value

Not everyone thinks in CHZ, so we'll show USD equivalents where it's helpful. At launch, $KIX = **$0.10 USD**. If you buy 1,000 $KIX, that's roughly $100 USD worth, or approximately 5,240 CHZ at launch pricing.

## How the $KIX Price is Set

$KIX has a live market price, set by trading activity on Kayen Finance and on CoinTR — not by KiX. KiX does not set or control the price of $KIX. The price you see reflects genuine supply and demand on those external markets.

## Selling $KIX

$KIX cannot be sold directly back to the platform. If you want to convert your $KIX back to CHZ or another currency, you can do so on external exchanges — including Kayen Finance and CoinTR.

Full details on how to do this are covered in the [Selling $KIX](/kix/usdkix-the-platform-token/kix-token/selling-kix.md) section of this documentation.

## Important Reminder

**$KIX is not an investment.** It is a functional utility token that exists to let you play on the KiX platform. Treat it as such.
