# vlKIX — Locking for Governance

## What is vlKIX?

vlKIX (Vote-Locked KIX) is the governance layer of the $KIX token. When you lock your $KIX for a defined period of time, you receive vlKIX in return.

vlKIX represents two things simultaneously: voting power and commitment. By locking your tokens, you are signalling that you are a long-term participant in KiX — not looking for a quick exit. In return, the platform gives you real influence over its future.

## What Do You Get for Locking?

### Governance Voting Power

vlKIX is your vote in the KiX DAO. Every governance proposal — from minor adjustments to major structural decisions — is decided by vlKIX holders. The more $KIX you lock, and the longer you lock it, the more voting power you receive.

This is how you move from being a user of KiX to being an owner of KiX.

## How to Lock

1. Go to your profile → Convert $KIX to vlKIX
2. Enter the amount of $KIX you wish to lock
3. Choose your lock duration (minimum: 30 days)
4. Confirm the transaction

Multiple lock positions are supported — you can have several locks active simultaneously with different amounts and durations.

## Key Rules of vlKIX

* **Non-transferable.** vlKIX cannot be sold, transferred, or traded. It exists only as voting power for as long as your lock is active. This prevents governance power from being commodified or bought and sold as separate assets.
* **Full return on expiry.** When your lock period ends, your $KIX is returned to you in full. Not a portion — all of it. Your vlKIX is then burned (destroyed), as it no longer represents any locked position.
* **Lock rolling.** Before your lock expires, you can roll (extend) it for a further period. This maintains your voting position without a gap in governance participation.

## Viewing Lock History

The vlKIX history table on your profile shows your own locking events.
